What happens if I end my broadband or TV contract early?

If you end your contract before the minimum term agreed to then you will be required to pay an exit fee based on the number of months remaining. This fee can vary slightly as it is based on the ongoing costs incurred by the provider, but is usually around 60-80% of the remaining contract value. For example, if you pay £50 a month for your broadband and leave your contract six months early you could expect to pay an exit fee of around (50x0.7) x 6 = £210.

There are some situations where you do not have to pay this exit fee. If you are with Sky or Virgin Media and your move to a property where their service is not available, for example, then you have the right to exit your contract without penalty.

Virgin Media

Virgin Media currently cap their exit fees at a maximum of £288.

Hyperoptic

If you're with Hyperoptic and want to end your contract early, you'll pay a flat exit fee of £25 per month left on the contract for broadband and phone customers or £20 a month for broadband-only contracts.
