Why is my the first payment of my contract higher than my agreed monthly bill?

Why is my the first payment of my contract higher than my agreed monthly bill?

When you make your first payment on a new communications contract, or when you receive your bill, it's common for the total to be higher than the normal monthly payment. This can be for a few different reasons, and you should be able to see which applies from the details of your monthly bill.

The most common reason would be if the first payment includes set-up or connection fees. If you haven't paid the total set up fee up front, any remaining costs will be added to your first bill. The second most frequent cause would be if the bill is for longer than one month. If you begin your contract on the 20th of the month, and ask for your regular billing date to be the 1st of the month, your provider may send you one bill for the first 41 days of the contract, rather than a partial bill for the first ten.
